Enjoy the Tart, Earthy Taste of Plum Puree

Common in Central and South America, the ciruela is a tropical cousin to the common purple plum. It’s a stone fruit that grows on deciduous trees that can reach heights of 30-40 feet. While the tree may be tall, the ciruela plum is only about 2” long. The color can range from a golden yellow to a deep purple-red. In the tropics, it is often eaten fresh with sea salt to help quench thirst.

Our ciruela puree has all the flavor of the common plum but packs a bit more punch. Plum is great for brewing fruited sours and other beverages as it is naturally tart and a little astringent.

FAQs

What kinds of brews use plum pulp?

The flavor of the plum can range from deep and rich to light and delicate, depending on how you use it. In a dark stout, plum helps to cut through the richness with just a hint of acidity while still contributing depth. Plums pair beautifully with honey, so try adding it to a honey wheat beer or even a mead. Plum puree also works wonderfully alongside other stone fruits, such as cherry puree and peach puree.

Where is your fruit grown?

The majority of our fruit is grown by local farmers throughout Colombia, Brazil, and Chile. Our approach benefits both parties—they provide us with fresh, sun-ripened fruits with dependable quality, and we provide them with consistent employment and access to worldwide markets.

Can I order fruit purees in bulk quantities?

Absolutely! We recommend joining our wholesale fruit program to reap the full benefits of bulk ordering. In addition to volume discounts, you’ll enjoy reduced shipping costs, free samples, referral bonuses, sales tax exemption, and much more. Need plum puree delivered on a regular schedule? We can create a custom fruit contract to ensure that you’re always stocked with the plum pulp and other fruit purees you need to keep the brews coming!
