Hailed “Nectar of the Gods,” the lulo is native to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Some varieties have 2 ft. long leaves with purple hairs and spikes. Seeing this fruit for the first time, one may have the first impression of it being a furry orange/tomato/persimmon. However, when you bite into this fruit, the juice on the inside is green! And while related to tomatoes, the lulo tastes nothing like a tomato at all. In fact, its flavor is super complex.
Some people say that the fruity notes are like a combination of a ripe kiwi, citrus, and pineapple all in one. Others compare it to the candy, Skittles!
