Papaya
Papayas grow in most of the world’s tropical regions. Just like the taste, the papaya palm tree is also exotic with its beautifully shaped canopy. Reaching heights of over 30 feet, the thin structure somehow supports large bunches of papayas. Each papaya can weigh up to 10 lb!
When properly ripe, papaya has a unique buttery texture and an exquisite sweet and slightly pungent taste. It melts in your mouth. Some say the flavor is like a cross between a mango and a cantaloupe. Unless you live in a tropical climate, it’s hard to come by a ripe papaya. Imported papayas are picked green and the true flavor never develops. This is where a puree can be a good option since the fruit is naturally sun-ripened and pressed at the peak of freshness.
