Lulo
Hailed “Nectar of the Gods,” the lulo is native to Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Some varieties have 2 ft. long leaves with purple hairs and spikes. Seeing this fruit for the first time, one may have the first impression of it being a furry orange/tomato/persimmon. However, when you bite into this fruit, the juice on the inside is green! And while related to tomatoes, the lulo tastes nothing like a tomato at all. In fact, its flavor is super complex.
Some people say that the fruity notes are like a combination of a ripe kiwi, citrus, and pineapple all in one. Others compare it to the candy, Skittles! It also pairs well with fruits like pineapple, orange, and peach. For an exotic twist, it can also be used as a substitute for lime.
